Observing the Sky in the Digital Age: Artificial Intelligence & Cloud Detection
Most of our actions on the World Wide Web today are based on images that are classified and arranged by artificial intelligence. The software scans the surface of images for recognisable patterns and structures in order to systematise them. In his lecture, Nicolas Malevé, a specialist in algorithmic vision and pattern recognition, presents his research on the subject and explains the difficulties the technology encounters in recognising and classifying the abstract motifs of clouds. In the subsequent Artist Talk, the artist Noa Jansma reports on her AI-based project BuyCloud and talks about how technology is connected to the selling off of the sky, climate change and the role of clouds in it.
