At the age of 25, Bieke Depoorter (*1986, Belgium) was already accepted as a candidate in the photo agency Magnum Photos. She has been a full member since 2016. In the Artist Tour through her exhibition A Chance Encounter, Depoorter presents her series Agata and Michael and gives insight into her extraordinary way of working. Chance encounters are the starting points for her work. The personal relationship she builds up with the people in her photographs over several years has a decisive influence on her artistic practice. In her long-term projects, Depoorter not only changes the classic relationship between photographer and subject, but also questions the medium of photography itself.
