On the occasion of the exhibition Graciela Iturbide. Eyes to Fly With, C/O Berlin, in cooperation with delphi LUX, presents a film series by Alejandro González Iñárritu. Renowned photographer Graciela Iturbide not only documented the set of Iñárritu’s Babel (2006) with her camera but also shares with the filmmaker a profound fascination for the diverse facets of Mexican society.
While Iturbide’s photographs offer intimate and nuanced insights into the life and culture of Mexico, Iñárritu’s cinematic storytelling explores similar themes of identity, migration, and human connection. Both artists use their respective media to open up different perspectives on social realities and cultural narratives of their homeland — together creating a multifaceted portrait of Mexico that resonates visually and emotionally.
About the film
Bardo is a visually stunning self-reflection: the protagonist—a Mexican journalist and documentary filmmaker who now lives in the US—moves through a surreal mixture of fantastically charged fragments of memory and nightmares.
In Tibetan Buddhism, “bardo” is a state between death and rebirth or final liberation from this cycle.
