In response to the East Berlin book published in the West by Lutz Rathenow and Harald Hauswald, the state reacted with reprisals: in the spring of 1988, the Youth Welfare Office ordered home education for Hauswald's daughter Anne (he was a single parent). The ten-year-old was taken straight from school to a residential facility without seeing her father again. Hauswald fought for several months to be able to have the daughter back with him, only succeeding at the end of the year.
Anne Hauswald talks about her childhood in the GDR and how her experiences shaped her. This will be followed by an exchange between Harald Hauswald and chief curator Felix Hoffmann.
