In the Artist Talk, artist Richard Frater talks with curator Boaz Levin about his site-specific work Concrescence Plot, which he installed on the roof terrace of C/O Berlin. Here, the garden is foregrounded as a contentious spatial entity that oscillates between care and control, chance and design, and thus challenges the notions of "wilderness" and "cultivation." The artist provides insight into the idea and concept development of the project, explains what ruderal plants are all about, and how they are used by artist Léa Habourdin for the production of her chlorophyll-based anthotypes,
Richard Frater (b. 1984, NZ) lives and works in Berlin. In 2016, he participated in the Berlin Program for Artists and has continued as a guest mentor. His solo exhibition Off Season was shown at the Kunstverein München in Munich 2023. Other selected exhibitions include Im Volksgarten at Kunsthaus Glarus, Switzerland (2020), and Compound at KW Institute for Contemporary Art, Berlin, Germany (2017).
