In this dialogue format, experts from various fields take a closer look at the influential work of the legendary Austrian performance and media artist VALIE EXPORT, who has not only influenced generations of (performance) artists but has also significantly contributed to establishing feminist issues in the art world.

In this tour the curator and art historian Madeleine Freund will discuss the political dimension of the body in VALIE EXPORT's works and aspects of self-determination in her photographic self-portraits. In addition, the connection between feminist issues of the 1970s and current discourses on the body, identity, national and cultural origin, class, sexuality, as well as gender equality and social belonging, will be addressed.

Madeleine Freund is an art historian and works as a curator and art critic in Berlin and Munich. She completed her dissertation on body politics in the works of VALIE EXPORT at the University of Art in Linz and at the VALIE EXPORT Center, a research center for media and performance art.
