The photographs of Graciela Iturbide speak of identity, memory, and belonging. In this workshop, we approach her images through writing—attentive, tentative, personal. With short creative writing prompts, we connect what we see with our own biographies.
Whether you are an experienced writer or just beginning, the exercises open spaces for memory and give room to words that often remain hidden. Like a photograph, a text can preserve, hold, and retrieve. Inspired by Iturbide’s gaze, we explore the self—not with a camera, but with language. Writing becomes a quiet form of approach, to the images as well as to ourselves.
We share selected texts and listen to one another. In this exchange, it becomes clear that personal stories are interconnected, and that biographies can expand through dialogue. Please bring whatever you need for writing. You are welcome to write in any language that feels right to you.
