“Please may I take your picture?” – In 1984, wowe, a young German photographer, arrived in the New York of the “Golden Years”, where as in no other city the elite—beautiful, clever, rich and famous—met in clubs and parties. Instead of trying to become the assistant of an established photographer, wowe took a job in the legendary nightclub “Area” as an interior design assistant—until one night when Boy George was a guest and wowe took his picture.

From then on, wowe was hired to do all the photography in “Area”, and attended the most important clubs and private parties. The exhibition of black and white photos includes portraits of celebrities such as Andy Warhol and Jean-Michel Basquiat, Grace Jones, Miles Davis, Madonna, Keith Haring.
